Student Visa - Lithuania

Citizens of EU member states do not need any special visa to study in Lithuania. All others may have to apply for a Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) via the Lithuanian Migration Department.

There are several kinds of visas that international students need. There are the national visa and the temporary residence permit. 

The national visa

The first kind (the national visa) is a visa allowing a foreigner to enter the Republic of Lithuania and stay in it for a period surpassing 90 days. A single entry national visa shall be issued to a foreigner who has been granted a temporary or permanent residence permit in the Republic of Lithuania. A multiple entry national visa shall be issued to a foreigner whose purpose of entry into the Republic of Lithuania is a long-term stay in the country. 

Temporary Residence Permit

The second kind is the Temporary Residence Permit. It is a document granting a foreigner the right to temporary reside in the Republic of Lithuania for a period specified in the permit.

How to apply to universities in Lithuania? 

There are several options for admission to one of the universities in Lithuania, you can choose one of them according to your nationality:

EU citizen

If you are an EU citizen and you want to get one of the state-funded scholarships, you need to complete the general admission application form via the website of the Lithuanian Association of Higher Education Institutions via the link lamabpo, the application date is from 1 June to 23 July.

 European Union

If you are a citizen from outside the European Union, you must apply directly to the university or college in which you intend to study to ensure the conditions required to study the major you have chosen, as there are requirements that are specific to certain programs and not others.

Later, a response from the university will reach the student, accepting or rejecting his request. In general, the deadline for accepting applications is in July.

However, students who are planning to study in Lithuania are advised to start the application process as soon as possible because the check and equivalency procedures may take longer sometimes.
