Study language

Tuition fees

Living in Romania

Universities in Romania

Romania is home to 70,000 students. It’s a considerable number given the country’s 19 million populations. There are many universities in Romania where those students can study the majors they love. 

Romania’s most renowned university is in the capital. It is the University of Bucharest. It is known for its high-quality teaching and interesting programs. Yet there is the Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca and the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iași are also good schools. Additionally, the West University of Timișoara is also known for its science and technology programs.

University of Bucharest 

University of Bucharest (UB) is a public higher education institution, non-profit and with a non-political status, established in 1864. The university is one of the most important higher education institutions in Romania. It provides educational services and research activity of the highest standards by following international competitive challenges and a permanent internal preoccupation for quality,interdisciplinary collaboration, as well as for leadership and excellence in all activities and tasks of the academic community.

Since the 1990s, UB has ade a complex process of revival. It launched new faculties and study programs, reorganizing and redefining priorities of the institutional development. In 2000, the university housed 18 faculties and over 20,000 students. The university now includes 19 faculties and over 33,000 students of which approximately 35% are enrolled in the master’s and doctoral programs. In conjunction, it is one of the most important research centers in the country, currently consisting of over 50 institutes, departments, research centers, and 5 research platforms. The university has several offices in Bucharest, most of them located in the city center. It also includes centers and resorts such as those of Orşova, Sinaia, Ţara Haţegului.

West University of Timişoara

Universitatea de Vest din Timișoara (UVT) / West University of Timişoara (WUT) is the main higher education institution and research center in Western Romania. Its community houses nearly 16000 students and over 700 academic staffers. WUT is a comprehensive university that consists of 11 faculties with their respective departments. It also has the Department of Teacher Training.

The Romanian-American University 

The Romanian-American University was established in 1991. Its mission is to promote the educational values of the American academic education given the rich traditions of the Romanian education. 

At the university, the School of Computer Science for Business Management offers its graduates with theoretical and practical specialty knowledge in compliance with the current requirements of the field “Computer Science for Economy”. It facilitates their integration in software companies.

School of Domestic and International Business

The School of Domestic and International Business, Banking and Finance provides a number of study programs. They are deemed the most complex within the Romanian-American University. The School of Management-Marketing was established within the Romanian-American University in 1991. The School of European Economic Studies was set up nearly a decade later under the name Studies of the European Economic Integration and renamed in 2008. The mission of the Romanian-American University is education, teaching, scientific research and innovation, cultivating the values of universal science and culture in general.

University of Timisoara

The fourth Romanian university to be included in the ranking of the best 800 universities in the world. Founded in 1962, this university is one of the highest ranked Romanian young universities. The university consists of 11 colleges, and it teaches mathematics, informatics, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, history, theology, psychology, economics, arts, physical education, politics, philosophy and law. Among its most notable alumni is the 2009 Nobel Prize in Literature laureate, Herta Müller.

Student Visa - Romania

Students with European, Canadian, Croatian, Japanese, Moldavian, Korean (South Korean), Swiss, American or Serbian citizenships do not need any visa to study in Romania. But all other nationalities (including Arab) need to obtain a visa before arriving in Romania.

You need a letter of acceptance to study in Greek universities from the Ministry of Education to be able to apply, and this visa takes about a month and a half. After arriving in the country, you must extend your visa to obtain a residence permit.

Upon obtaining the visa, the fees for the first full academic year must be paid, and the student must open an account with at least 1,500 euros, after renting housing.

The documents you need to obtain a study visa:

• Acceptance letter to study at the university from the Ministry of Education
• Proof of payment of university fees for one year
• Proof of your ability to pay for your accommodation during the entire period.
• A non-conviction certificate or other testimony that shows that you do not have a criminal record.
• Medical insurance for the entire period of your studies in Romania.

How to apply - Romania

How to apply to Romanian universities? 

To be able to study in Romania, you must be at least 17 years old. You will also need a number of documents required to apply to Romanian universities. For an undergraduate study application, you must submit:

• A certified copy of the passport (the first three pages) valid for at least six months.
• Personal photos with white background
• Certified copy of birth certificate
• A certified copy of the high school diploma (baccalaureate)
• A certified transcript of the general secondary certificate for countries whose certificates do not contain a breakdown of the subject marks
• A medical certificate certifying that you are free from communicable and contagious diseases and explaining your health condition.

As for studying at higher university levels (Masters)

you must submit all the documents mentioned above in addition to the following:

• Certified copy of Bachelor’s degree (University Certificate)
• A certified transcript of the university degree

To study for a PhD

all the above-mentioned documents must be submitted in addition to:

• A certified copy of the master’s degree
• A certified transcript of the master’s degree
• All previous documents must be translated into one of the Romanian or English languages.

Scholarship in Romania

The country provides generous grants to students, including full fee waivers. These are awarded before students begin thier degree, however it is common practice in Romania for universities to cover the following year’s fees for the highest-performing students in each year group. 

Additionally, EU students are entitled to the same grants as Romanian students. There are also some grants provided specifically to non-EU students. Grants are normally awarded based on a student’s academic merit or social situation. 

Romanian Government Scholarship

The Romanian Government offers 85 educational scholarships to non-EU students to study Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate and is funded (tuition fee waiver, free student housing insurance and monthly financial support in the amounts of 65 euros for undergraduate students, 75 euros for master’s students and 85 euros for doctoral students The scholarship does not include transportation, transportation, or food funding.

This scholarship is offered to study in the Romanian language only in order to enhance the Romanian language and culture by offering a preparatory year to study the language.

As for students who are proficient in the Romanian language, they must pass a language test for proof. The applicant’s age should not be more than 35 years for bachelor’s and master’s degrees and 45 years for doctoral studies, and the applicant’s academic average should be at least 70%.

The scholarship includes a large number of specializations, but does not include studying any of the medical fields (human medicine, dentistry, pharmacy)

Romanian University of Transylvania Scholarship

The University of Transylvania in Brasov offers a funded scholarship to study bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees for international students outside European countries in many disciplines.

The scholarship covers tuition fees, student housing fees, in addition to a monthly amount of 800 Romanian lei, or about 100-120 euros. The student is required to pass in all academic years because failure in one of the years leads to the withdrawal of the scholarship from him.

The scholarship does not have any age requirements, in addition to being offered in both English and Romanian.
